Adirondack Park Multi-Image Presentations Carl Heilman II has been photographing the Adirondacks since 1975, trying to record on film not only the
grandeur of the wilderness in the region, but the emotional involvement he has felt as well. During the
winter of 1987-88, he and his wife, Meg created their first slide / dissolve program, Carl's love and concern for the Adirondacks led to his involvement with helping to protect the present character of the Adirondack region. In the summer of 1990, he became involved with the newly formed Residents' Committee to Protect the Adirondacks in North Creek, NY. In late summer, with the help of songwriter Dan Berggren, Carl and Meg put together the 17 minute 2 projector program, Adirondack Visions. This thought provoking presentation takes an introspective look at the issues of the Adirondack Park as it shows the wilderness and the people, local livelihoods and development, and environmental issues and possibilities for the future. Carl and Meg have also produced two 3 projector presentations that were used to help celebrate the 1992 Adirondack Park Centennial. The Adirondack Park: 100 Years of Stewardship is a moving perspective on the Park history. By combining text from influential statesmen of the past century with both contemporary slides and historical photos, this 13 minute program takes an emotional look at the creation and stewardship of the Adirondack Park. The second program: The Adirondack Park: Our Legacy for the Future, captures both the spirit of life and the people in the region, as well as the beauty of the backcountry wilderness. To help add a real Adirondack 'flavor', this 28 minute program combines some of Carl's best nature photography slides with pictures of historic photos, and songs by well known Adirondack musicians Dan Berggren, Peggy Lynn, Roy Hurd (Poncho), Bill Smith, and Woodheat (Chuck Brumley and Karen Loffler). Both of these programs were transferred to video and are available on the stereo VHS video, Adirondack Images. The Adirondacks: A Wilderness of Waterways, was produced in 1994 with the help of Dan Berggren, for the Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Centers in Newcomb and Paul Smiths, NY. Few places in the world have the same combination of towering mountains and abundant lakes and waterways that help make the Adirondack Park wilderness so special. By using a combination of expressive narrative, original music, and inspirational nature images, Carl, Dan, and Meg, have produced a program that evokes a feel for the wilderness, and tells a story of the history in the region and the recreational uses of the waterways today. This is a 19 minute 3 projector program that can be shown for some private groups. Public performances are limited so they don't conflict with the Interpretive Center's daily showings. This was reprogrammed in 2006 as a digital AV presentation. Carl, Meg, and Dan have once again teamed up in 1999 to produce Wild Visions, a 3 projector audio visual program about our relationship with the wilderness and our spiritual connection with the Earth. In this new program, Carl takes viewers on a wilderness tour through some of the most special places in the Adirondack Park. Spectacular nature photography of the Adirondack High Peaks, foothills, and waterways is all synchronized to poetic narrative and exceptional Adirondack folk music by Dan Berggren, Dan Duggan, and Peggy Lynn. Included in the selection of slides for the program are some of the images from Carl's panoramic format book, Adirondacks: Views of an American Wilderness. Wild Visions has been reprogrammed and is now shown as a digital AV presentation. Wild Visions is scheduled to be shown at many locations throughout the Adirondack Park this year. Current information on Carl's schedule of programs and book signings, can be found on his calendar page. There will be a book and poster signing following each of the programs. In 2006, Carl was asked to help produce a panroamic AV presentation for the new Wild Center in Tupper Lake to be show in their theater on a 12 feet high by 50 feet wide screen. He worked together with the talents of producer Rick Godin and creative compostion of Lance Day to produce a 15 minute program that helps convey the essence of being in the back country of the Adirondacks. The dgital AV presentation 'The Wild Adirondacks: A Timeless Experience' is shown daily at the Wild Center on their 12 feet high by 50 feet wide panoramic screen Please HOME / Contact Us for information about organizing a public or private presentation of these programs. |
